EU joins IEA Cities and Energy Storage Technology Collaboration Programmes
Following a Commission Decision and in partnership with the International Energy Agency, the EU will work with global partners to help cities become cleaner and more sustainable, while also improving how energy from renewable sources is stored and used. This collaboration will help turn climate goals into practical solutions that benefit people in their daily lives, from cleaner air in cities to more reliable green energy.
The Cities Technology Collaboration Programme (Cities TCP) aims to help cities accelerate their decarbonisation journey. It builds on the work of urban-related programmes, connecting it with the needs of cities across world regions to support local decision-making and implementation. By joining the Cities TCP, the Commission will strengthen its international cooperation activities under the Urban Transitions Mission, as the global outreach of the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, and link with the activities of the Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) European Partnership.
The Energy Storage Technology Collaboration Programme (Energy Storage TCP) facilitates research, development, implementation and integration of energy storage technologies, including Electrical, Thermal and Chemical Energy Storage. These activities aim to optimise the role of storage technologies as a core component of an efficient and sustainable energy system and facilitate an increasing use of renewables. The collaboration will support the EU’s R&I priorities for energy storage, including as defined under the ‘Climate, energy and mobility’ cluster of Horizon Europe.
