EC launches European Water Academy
As one of the flagship actions under the new European Water Resilience Strategy, the European Commission has launched the European Water Academy (EUWA). The academy will be led by the Commission's Joint Research Centre 8JRC). It aims to address capacity needs in Europe’s water sector and to bridge research and real-world application of technologies by offering advanced training, supporting innovation, and fostering collaboration between public and private actors across Europe.
As Europe faces increasing pressure on its water resources due to climate stress, ageing infrastructures and water mismanagement, the academy will build the knowledge, skills, and expertise to fill the capacity gaps to ensure a water-resilient continent. The academy is anchored in a public-private collaboration, and links organisations that generate knowledge with those who apply it. It is designed as a network of networks, recognising that skills, expertise and innovation can only be strengthened through collaboration across sectors and borders. It brings together know-how, skills, and tools for improving European water resilience by engaging all key stakeholders. This collaboration encompasses public authorities, universities, water professionals, research and technology organisations, water utilities, industry, and professional associations to deliver truly holistic solutions.
