Practical guide aims at supporting implementation of responsible Research Assessment at RFOs
DORA (a global initiative that campaigns for and supports improving ways we assess research and researchers), the Global Research Council Responsible Research Assessment Working Group and Science Europe have jointly developed and published a 'Practical Guide to implementing Responsible Research Assessment at Research Funding Organisations'. The guide was published on 21 May 2026 and was developed through a number of stakeholder discussions, including an in-person workshop (December 2025) in Copenhagen, Denmark, as a side-event for the CeRRA Conference. The Practical Guide is a sister volume of a similar DORA Guide for Research Performing Organizations (2025).
The 'Practical Guide to Implementing Responsible Research Assessment at Research Funding Organisations' provides action-oriented guidance, resources, and illustrative examples for research funding organisations (RFOs) who are looking to shape and deliver responsible research assessment (RRA) practices. This includes RFOs who are looking to create an RRA strategy, organisations wanting to reform existing practices, as well as those planning steps towards more holistic and inclusive approaches to research assessment.
The Guide aims to inspire diverse approaches to the implementation of responsible assessment practices. It is discipline-agnostic, flexible, and is intended to be adaptable to diverse organisational and disciplinary contexts by users.
