ESFRI-EOSC Task Force Publishes Report on EOSC and Research Infrastructures
The ESFRI-EOSC Task Force has released the report “EOSC & Research Infrastructures: Opportunities and Strategies – Policy Workshop Highlights Report”, capturing the main outcomes of a workshop held in Milan on 16–17 March 2026. The event brought together around 90 representatives from Research Infrastructures, EOSC Nodes, the EOSC Steering Board, the EOSC Association and the European Commission to examine the evolving relationship between the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the European research infrastructure landscape.
The report identifies key opportunities and challenges linked to the development of the EOSC Federation. Among the main topics discussed were service and resource visibility, sustainability and funding models, onboarding processes, FAIR data practices, community engagement, and the role of Research Infrastructures in shaping the future EOSC ecosystem.
Participants highlighted the need for stronger communication, clearer onboarding pathways, better cost-benefit analyses for Research Infrastructures, and continued collaboration across European, national and institutional levels.
The discussions also emphasized EOSC’s growing role as a federated system supporting data-driven and AI-enabled research across disciplines. The report offers recommendations for the next phase of EOSC Federation development and the wider European Open Science agenda.
