The Guild Calls for Stronger SSAH Role in FP10
The Guild has set out its vision for strengthening Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities-led (SSAH) research in FP10, arguing that the next EU research framework must help shape “the Europe we want to see”.
In a new statement, The Guild says the Society component of Pillar 2 in Horizon Europe should be built on a clear and robust research and innovation strategy to address uncertainty, strengthen societal resilience and improve Europe’s ability to prepare for the future.
The organisation also raises concerns about the current lack of clarity in budget allocation within the Society component. It calls on the European Commission to provide transparent funding details for each instrument and to clearly identify resources dedicated to SSAH-led collaborative research tackling major societal challenges.
According to The Guild, the Society component should support research that reinforces competitiveness by strengthening democratic participation, cultural heritage, the cultural and creative sectors, and social cohesion.
It highlights three priorities for FP10: shaping major transformations such as climate, digital and demographic change; sustaining democratic, inclusive and secure societies; and leveraging culture, identity and diversity to counter polarisation and strengthen cohesion.
The Guild argues that SSAH research will be essential to Europe’s scientific, digital and economic transformation.
