EU showcases Atlantic ocean research cooperation at 2026 All-Atlantic Forum
The EU participates at the All‑Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance (AAORIA) 2026 Annual Forum, which takes place in Brazil fom 15 to 16 April 2026. EU scientists and officials are joining counterparts from 12 Atlantic nations to highlight how international cooperation is shaping a healthier, more resilient Atlantic Ocean. A key focus is the All‑Atlantic Network of Coastal Resilience 'Beacon Sites', launched at the 2025 Forum in Brussels and now expanded to 26 sites around the Atlantic.
Brazil, as AAORIA Chair for 2026, is hosting the forum through its Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, with support from OKEANO, a Horizon Europe–funded project that coordinates AAORIA’s work towards the goals of the All‑Atlantic Declaration.
The forum programme covers ocean observation and modelling, ocean literacy, sustainable aquaculture and polar science. It also underscores the role of Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) as key actors in AAORIA.
Building on the momentum of this year’s forum, a new € 6 million Horizon Europe project will launch this summer. The project will develop innovative solutions for coastal resilience and climate adaptation, reinforcing the resilience of Atlantic coastal communities.
